Asphalt Roofing Shingle

Fibreglass asphalt roofing shingles — a value-added, downstream product made from your own oxidised bitumen

Overview

What is Asphalt Roofing Shingle?

Asphalt shingles are the world's most common sloped-roof covering: a fibreglass mat is saturated and coated with oxidised (blown) bitumen, then surfaced with ceramic-coated mineral granules for weather, UV and fire resistance. They install fast, look premium and typically last 15–30 years.

For a bitumen or blown-bitumen operation, shingles are a natural value-added, downstream line — you convert your own oxidised bitumen into a finished consumer product at a far higher margin per tonne than selling bulk bitumen. India's demand is rising with villas, resorts and premium housing, and is still largely import-met — a genuine substitution opportunity.

Why this business

Benefits

  • Value-added — a finished roofing product at higher margin than bulk bitumen
  • Downstream fit — consumes your own oxidised / blown bitumen as feed
  • Rising demand — villas, resorts, farmhouses, prefab & premium housing
  • Import substitution — much of India's shingle demand is currently imported
  • Long product life — 15–30 yr weather, UV and (rated) fire resistance
Demand

Applications & buyers

  • Sloped-roof residential — villas, bungalows, farmhouses
  • Resorts, clubhouses & hospitality architecture
  • Re-roofing & roof-repair market
  • Prefab / modular, gazebo and pergola structures
